Welcome Video
Watch a reading of this week’s Book Club book!
Worship Together
Share in some faith practices of worship together!
Shine a Light: Turn on a book light or reading lamp and say, “Jesus is the light of the world!”
Giving Thanks: Sing or say: Thank you God, for giving us life. Thank you God, for giving us life. Thank you God, for giving us life. Right where we are! Alleluia, praise the Lord! Alleluia, praise the Lord! Alleluia, praise the Lord! Right where we are! (Add in your own ideas of things you are thankful for!)
Offering: How can you make an offering today?
Read the Bible Together
Read the Bible: Mark 12:41-44 and Should I Share My Ice Cream? by Mo Willems
Or watch the Holy Moly Video
Talk About It!
- What do you find is easy to share? What is hard to share?
- Gerald (the elephant) is having a hard time deciding whether to share ice cream. What are some of Gerald’s excuses not to share? Do we find reasons not to share? Give some examples.
- Jesus told his disciples that the poor widow gave more than the rich people, even though she only gave two coins. What did Jesus mean?
- Do you think Gerald is more like the poor widow or the rich man? Why? Do you think Piggie is more like the poor widow or the rich man? Why?
Dig Deeper: Jesus says, “They gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on.” Do you think Jesus wants us to give all of our money and possessions away? What do you think Jesus meant? God knows what is in our hearts, and God wants our intentions to be good when we give.
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Ice Cream Design a huge ice cream cone with materials in your space. Maybe you want to draw. Maybe you want to use clay or play-doh. Maybe you can make a real ice cream cone or sundae and share it with a family member!
Activity 2: Rich Man/Poor Widow Charades Take turns entering the space like the rich man or the poor widow. Have others guess which character you are trying to portray.
Pray Together
“Loving God, thank you for your generous blessings, like ice cream on a hot day. Help us to be generous like you. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Give each other a hug and say to each other “Thank you for sharing love!”
