Welcome Videos

Start with a Welcome Video from Leah Reddy

Worship Together

Share in some faith practices of worship together!

Shine a Light: Light a candle and say, “Jesus is the light of the world. His light shines in me, and it shines in you.”

  • The flame reminds of something else today, and that is Pentecost! As Christians, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised to his disciples. The Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ disciples in the form of wind and fire.

Sing Together: This Little Light of Mine: If you are able, light a candle to remind yourselves that Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus is with you, and Jesus is in you. Let your light shine!

Pray: Say the Lord’s Prayer together.

Make an Offering: How can you make an offering today?

Read the Bible Together

Acts 2:1-4
Spark Story Bible – The Holy Spirit

Talk About It!

Talk about it: Have you ever felt the presence of the Holy Spirit? Can you think of a time when the Holy Spirit was at work in your life? Sometimes, I have a plan for a lesson, but the Holy Spirit pushes me in a different direction! Often, the presence of the Holy Spirit is not as obvious to us as it was on that first Pentecost day. On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to the disciples as wind and fire! What are some things that fall over when it’s windy? What are some things we use fire for?

Digging Deeper (great topics for Upper Elementary): Do you speak any other languages? What language(s) would you like to learn? Why? What are some situations in which being able to speak another language could be important?

Family Activity Choices

Pick activities to do together!

Activity 1: Fly a kite or play with a balloon together – Harness the power of the wind by doing one of these activities together. If you’ve got a red balloon, even better, since red is the liturgical color on Pentecost. As you pass the balloon to each other, say “The Holy Spirit is with YOU!”

Activity 2: Suddenly, the disciples were able to speak and understand different languages. Choose a word or phrase like “hello” or “I love you,” and see how many languages you can say it in. You can use Google Translate or another app to help you find a few more.

Pray Together

“Dear God, Help me watch and listen for your Holy Spirit. Let your Holy Spirit guide me like it guided the disciples. Amen.

Bless Each Other

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.

It’s Pentecost – Make a flickering flame with your hand over each other’s head and say “God’s Spirit is with you!”
