Talking Strings presents the history and evolution of Romani music from the 17th century to the present day.

Guitarist Pavel Jany, together with cellist Jacqueline Ultan, accompanied by Dean Harrington on guitar and Andrew Gillespie on percussion, will trace various styles of Romani music across the European continent from Spain and southern France to the Czech Republic and Russia, demonstrating its profound influences on other musical styles (including European classical music and American jazz) from around the globe.

ASL interpretation will be available. Light refreshments will be offered following the concert.

The performance is offered through the Compas Teaching Artists Program and Wingspan Life Resources. Wingspan is a local charity celebrating its 50th year of serving adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Twin Cities. They have 30 group homes (several near Nativity) and an in-home program for those still living with family or independently. Their mission is “To inspire community by empowering people with disabilities to live their best life.”
