Invocation
Find a Candle that you can light, and keep it with your Club 56 gear
Invocation: the act of inviting or welcoming or acknowledging that God is present in our space.
As you light your candle, say this invocation out loud: “I light this candle in the name of God, our Creator; Jesus, our Savior; and the Holy Spirit, our Inspirer. The three in one!”
Opening Question
What are some things we do to help guests feel comfortable in our home? What helps you feel comfortable?
Prepare
Each story has its own symbol, it will help us remember the story. This week, we are talking about the New Promise that Jesus gives us at the Last Supper. Grab some paper and use your imagination to stretch your own symbol of what a New Promise might look like.
To prepare for this week’s story, you will want a bit of background on the world that Jesus was living in.
Foot washing was a daily activity and a common way of welcoming someone during the time of Jesus. People in that time would walk on dirt roads, often in bare feet or with open-toed sandals. Naturally, their feet were very dirty. Foot washing was an expected part of entering a home and of preparing for a meal. For Jews, it was more than just about being physically clean; it also signified being pure before God.
It would have been customary for a host to provide water and a servant to wash the feet of the guests. What would be unheard of, however, would be for a guest of honor, like Jesus, to take on the role of servant and wash others’ feet.
Read and Imagine
Students, pull out your pens or markers and doodle or sketch what comes to your mind as you listen. Once you have completed sketching the images, share what you’ve done with a parent.
Parents, this week you will read to your student,New Promise as you are reading they will be sketching.
Capture what you noticed
What stood out to you? What did you see or sense? What questions do you have about this story? ANYTHING (we mean anything) is okay to ask. A few that I have: Why did Peter want his head and hands washed? During the dinner, Jesus said that he would be leaving soon, where did the disciples think he was going? Why do the wine and bread have to be blood and body?

Today we covered 3 different parts of The Last Supper Story. You are challenged to create 3 symbols for each part of the story. Use your creativity to capture each scene in the simplest possible way. Make it your own and express your unique style!

Maybe you’re inspired to write or speak your own, if so, please do so! If you’d like to try something different we have a Prayerful Reading for you!
- Slowly and prayerfully read John 15, some of Jesus last words before he was arrested and killed.
- Read SLOWLY, circling or underlining specific words, phrases, or sentences that stand out to you. If you have time, read it a second time.
- Share with others what stood out to you and why.
