Being an Ally for LGBTQIA+

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and their fight for equality. At Nativity Lutheran Church, we believe that everyone is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

We are called to be a reconciling church, and that includes being allies to the LGBTQIA+ community. There are many ways to be an ally, both during Pride Month and throughout the year. Here are a few ideas (Click the photos to go to the websites for more information):

  • Educate yourself. The more you know about LGBTQIA+ issues, the better equipped you will be to support the community. There are many resources available online and in your community.

  • Speak up against discrimination. If you see or hear someone making homophobic or transphobic remarks, don’t be afraid to speak up. Let them know that their words are hurtful and unacceptable.

  • Support LGBTQIA+ businesses and organizations. When you spend your money at LGBTQIA+ businesses, you are helping to support the community. You can also support LGBTQIA+ organizations by donating your time or money.

  • Attend Pride events. Pride events are a great way to show your support for the LGBTQIA+ community and to learn more about their history and culture.

We hope you will join us in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month and beyond. By being an ally, you can help to create a more inclusive and welcoming world for everyone.

As a reconciled church, we believe that God’s love is for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We are committed to creating a welcoming and affirming environment for all people, and we believe that Pride Month is a time to celebrate the diversity of our community.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Pride Month and in showing your support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
