This is a historic moment in Minnesota and a big step forward for the vision that all people have a home! Nativity volunteers, in collaboration with our community partner Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, have worked for years in support of Bring It Home, MN by visiting legislators, attending rallies at the Capitol, and sending advocacy emails and postcards. Now we celebrate the fruits of the many hours and many actions it took for this legislation’s passage.
Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative started the Bring It Home, Minnesota initiative four years ago. Over 30 organizations and more than 100 congregations have backed this rent support program. This is the FIRST EVER general rent support program in the state. Nearly 5500 housing vouchers will be transformational in the lives of recipients. Additionally, $200 million will be dedicated for building new affordable housing options (like Gladstone Crossing, which Nativity is helping sponsor) and $25 million to ensure security and front desk services for residents in supporting housing.
Gladstone Crossing Update: Work continues to move forward with the Gladstone Crossing housing complex in Maplewood. There will be opportunities to learn more and support the project in the coming year. Look for details in the months ahead!
