Have you ever gone on a long trip? Where did you go? How did you get there? Would you have gone if you knew it would be dangerous? Would you have gone if you knew you wouldn’t be welcomed?
In today’s story we meet Paul, well he actually started out being called Saul. But when God asked him to change his ways and start sharing God’s Good News, he changed it to Paul. Along his ways he met new friends that began traveling with him, like Barnabas. Together they traveled hundreds, even thousands, of miles by boat and by foot to share the news of Jesus’ great love for all people. Some people became believers in Jesus. Others were angry, and they tried to hurt Paul and Barnabas.
Dig Deeper: Read as much of Acts 13 and 14 as you can. You will read about a sorcerer, a curse, a sermon, a plan to stone Paul and Barnabas, an escape, a healing miracle, a mistaken identity, and an actual stoning (Paul survived). What do you think about Paul and Barnabas? What do missionaries do today? Do you know anyone who has gone on a mission trip? Would you like to go on a mission trip?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together with supplies you have around your house!
Activity 1: Map study Look at a world map or a globe together. Can you find Minnesota? Can you find Glacier National Park in Montana or New York City? Those are about 1200 miles from Minneapolis. Can you find Syria, Cyprus, and Turkey where Paul and Barnabas traveled?
Activity 2: Follow the Feet Get people to trace and cut out their feet. Then make a “follow the feet” maze on the floor.
Pray Together
“Dear God, Please help our missionaries do your good work, wherever you send them. Please help us be like missionaries and share Jesus’ love with everyone we meet. Amen.“

At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
We are still in Eastertide, so say to each other “Christ is risen. He is risen indeed! Alleluia!“
