Growing Discipleship in Community
“And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8b NRSV)
What Is Public Ministry?
As people of God, we have been freed in Christ to love our neighbor. Public Ministry calls us into fulfillment of our Affirmation of Baptism (ELCA) to “serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus,” and “to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.”
Our grateful response to God’s love and grace motivates us to live lives that serve the well-being of our neighbors and the life of the world. At Nativity, we join as a community of faith in the ongoing journey of discipleship, learning together, loving well, and serving gladly.
Nativity’s Department of Public Ministry is an integration of its longstanding outreach initiatives and ministries of social justice and Advocacy. It supports our congregation’s seven outreach areas, including volunteer-led initiatives and community partnerships.
The work of Public Ministry also engages the Nativity community through educational opportunities, scriptural reflection, intergenerational activities, and spiritual storytelling to help us explore and integrate questions of discipleship. Our individual commitments of Christian service find new life and enrichment through deepening our discipleship together in spiritual community.
