Have fun asking question for all your family members!
What are some things that we follow? When is it fun? When is it hard?
A disciple is a follower, a friend, and a helper. Jesus called his disciples to help spread the message of God’s power and love. We are disciples, too! As his disciple, what would Jesus like you to do today?
In our story today, the first followers of Jesus were fishermen. Did you know one of the first symbols to show you were a follower of Jesus was trace the shape of a fish in the sand together. One person would make the first arc, and if the other person was a follower as well, they’d make the second arc to complete the fish. It’s a symbol we still use today. Have some fun together making the symbol by drawing, in sand or even out in the snow!
Dig Deeper: Jesus was often criticized for the company he kept. He sat with sinners. He spoke to Samarians. He ate with tax collectors. Who would you be criticized for hanging around with? Why? Are there groups of people who are disliked, feared and/or singled out today?
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Making scrolls: Color, Cut and Collect the Fish Use the fish worksheet in your Faith Formation kit or download the pdf. After you color and cut out the fish, use straws to collect and move the fish. How long can you hold your breath? Can you move a fish across the table? Across the room
Activity 2: Play Go Fish Name the cards 1-10, Jack and Queen after the disciples (Peter, Andrew, Thaddeus, Matthew, Philip, John, Bartholomew, James, James 2, Simon, Judas, and Thomas). Name the King after Jesus.

Pray Together
“Dear Lord, thank you for making us your disciples. Help us to do the work you are calling us to do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Make the fish symbol together and say “I have decided to follow Jesus!”
