Read the Bible Together

Spark Story Bible – Wise Men pg 204
Bible – Matthew 2:1-12
Talk About It!
Have fun asking question for all your family members!
Have you ever made a long trip? How did you travel? Where were you going? How did you know where to go?
The Magi in the story studied the stars, and they trusted the star was leading them to a new king. They asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Even though the Magi were not Jewish, even though they were strangers from far away, they knew that Jesus was for them. Jesus is for you. Jesus is for the world.
Dig Deeper: Read this article and look at the pictures to find out more about how Epiphany (Three Kings’ Day) is celebrated around the world. In some countries, Epiphany is bigger than Christmas! https://www.oprahmag.com/life/a34715827/three-kings-day-celebration/
Note that the article refers frequently to the three wise men named Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. This is based on tradition, not scripture. The Bible does not actually mention how many Magi there were, nor were they named.
Family Activity Choices
Pick activities to do together! Supplies are provided in our Monthly At-Home Kits you picked up at our drive thru events or ask to have delivered to your home.
Activity 1: Color the star Color the beautiful star in your Faith Formation kit. You can also download and print it or draw your own star.
Activity 2: Follow the star Take turns hiding a baby Jesus figure (or another doll or figure). Attach the star to a ruler or a popsicle stick. Use the star to lead others to find the baby. Make it harder for older kids by playing hot/cold.

Pray Together
“Dear God, You are my guiding star of truth and love. Help me reflect your truth and love. Help me show others that Jesus is for the world. Amen.”
Bless Each Other
At the end of your time, give each other a special blessing to remember one of God’s promises.
Stretch out your arms and legs into star pose and say “You shine the way to God’s love!”
