Popular Topics: Every Sunday (September through May), 9:00 am. Pop Tops is an hour presentation and discussion on topics relevant to today.
Hearing loss, fraud, dementia—-these are not just topics for the elderly. People of all ages can be affected by these challenges.
February 3: “How to Talk with Hearing Impaired People” Many people are challenged with hearing loss or have family members, friends, or co-workers who deal with this loss. Learn about the different types of hearing loss and how to better communicate. Presenter: Dr. Rolf Skogerboe, Ear/Nose/Throat Surgeon.
February 10th: “Fraud Prevention, Don’t be a Victim” Fight back with things you will learn from this informative presentation which will help you spot and identify: identity theft, investment fraud, credit card fraud, cyber security and online safety. This presentation will include updates from law enforcement agencies and the IRS. Presenter, Joan Palmquist, a volunteer with AARP’s Fraud Watch Network, an organization that educates communities. Joan has personally been targeted by scammers.
February 17th: “Become a Dementia Friend” Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Attend this session and learn: what dementia is, what it’s like to live with the disease, how dementia is different from ordinary memory “glitches,” and tips for communicating with people who have dementia. Also learn about Dementia Friends Minnesota.
Presenter, Nate Cannon who is the Dementia Education Awareness Coordinator at East Side Community Services, NE Minneapolis. (Program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Minnesota Board on Aging.)
February 24th: “Circle of Hope” For 12 years, Circle of Hope, at Nativity Church, has offered support to those who are caring for loved ones who have dementia and other chronic diseases. The care givers and care receivers meet separately, so each can receive the support they need. Presenters: A panel of people who work with the program as well as program recipients.
